But here’s the truth: it’s not simple. It’s scrappy. It’s problem-solving. It’s wearing every hat and figuring it out when there’s no backup plan. Out here in Terlingua, if something breaks, you fix it. If weather shifts, you adjust. If it’s slow, you build.

There’s no convenience. But there is resilience.

And when you win out here? It feels earned. Deeply earned.

True story. I was 26. Working hard. Producing. Loyal. All in. And I had already hit my income ceiling.

I was told that because I was “too valuable” where I was, other positions wouldn’t be available to me. In other words , I was great… but I was capped.

Being young and ambitious, that was the last thing I wanted to hear. I wasn’t working that hard to stay stuck. I wasn’t pouring my heart into something just to max out early with nowhere to grow.

So I left.

Not out of anger, out of clarity. If there’s no upward path and no income growth, you build your own lane.

Now I live life on my own terms: building businesses, creating opportunity, and deciding what my ceiling looks like.

If someone tells you how small your future is, believe them… and go build it bigger somewhere else.
