A dip in temperatures calls for a quick, early morning hike in Big Bend! We did just that on Tuesday morning. Have you been to Balanced Rock yet? If you're looking for a great introductory hike to the park, this one is it, friends!

This two-mile there-and-back hike is jammed packed with things to see and an awesome rock scramble to Balanced Rock. There's no shade here so make sure to go early, wear a hat, and bring plenty of water. I do not suggest anyone with knee problems to attempt the rock scramble as it's a pretty intense climb. The walk is easy, but pay attention to the trail as it's easy to veer off into the riverbed. If you make this mistake, it's easy to miss the parking lot and go right past it.

The only part that makes this adventure tough is the drive there. You definitely need a high-clearance vehicle that can handle rough roads. We saw many car parts along the six-mile road to the trailhead. We did see small cars at the trailhead but that's up to you. You'll most likely see some damage. I have a Jeep Rubicon and it was fine.

I would definitely add this hike to your list. You won't be disappointed!

I'd love to see your photos if you've been here!
